Animal Motifs

Color is what matters most to me — it sets the mood, expresses emotion, and gives rhythm to the painting. I'm not interested in realistic depiction; what counts is expression, energy, and character. I paint intuitively, allowing space for spontaneity and freedom in composition.

Animal Motifs

Animals are the subject that resonates with me most. I don’t portray them literally, but through their energy — strength, calm, tension. What matters is their presence, their emotional charge.

Inspirations

Nature inspires me — its transformations, its light, its form. Sometimes it’s enough: a glance from a dog, the line of a bull’s back, or something that stirs deep inside.

Style and creative process

I paint in oils on large canvases, starting with a sketch and building the composition in layers.
I respond to the painting as it evolves — guided by gesture, texture, and color. The image is born in the act of painting, not predetermined.

Artistic statement

My paintings reflect what I cannot say in words.
Through animals and color, I give form to emotion.

Information about Karolina Modlińska

I was born in 1977 in Warsaw.
I graduated from the European Academy of Arts with a degree in printmaking, under the supervision of Dr. hab. Waldemar Szysz, and a painting annex in oil techniques with Dr. hab. Aneta Jaźwińska.

I have exhibited in venues including the “Ostrołęka” Gallery, Polish Television (TVP SA), the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH), and the Norwid Gallery in Lublin.
After many years away from painting, I’ve returned to it — building a new chapter in my artistic journey.
I create expressive animal portraits in oil, most often on large-format canvases.
I live and work in Warsaw.
